classes + environments

Note: I am currently seeking safe and family-friendly spaces to nurture these environments. If you know of an appropriate and affordable space, please let me know. Click Register and plug in your preferences, or send me an email: info@imeetswe.com

imeetswe classes are environments where we wake up to our senses and enjoy one another’s company. This is an emerging space, and each space is responsive to the needs of all who participate.

morning warm-up

Parents with young children who have met me in music class will find this environment very familiar. We’ll sing and move and play and connect in the ways we’ve been connecting, but we’ll take a little more time to wake up to our sensory and cognitive specialties. They’ll also be some new opportunities for both engagement and disengagement – allowing for parallel play and inclusive of different creative sensibilities, and maybe even some different instruments. Maybe even an instrument of your own.

Family-focus: mixed-age, parent or caregiver attends with child, all are welcome

afternoon pick-me-up

Very similar to Morning Warm Up, but since afternoons are an intersectional space, we’ll make more space for intersection. Older kids will find more skillful ways to engage, or be allowed to disengage in creative ways, or just veg out, according to their sensibilities. Hopefully, without the obligation to apply themselves to mastering a craft (which is what most music classes are asking them to do), they will naturally gravitate toward their happy place in the space, and we’ll meet them there.

evening wind down

This is a mixed-age music and movement environment. We will sing, move through the space, play instruments, and even make space for parallel play. This is generally for families with younger children, but all are welcome, and there will be many ways to engage and co-regulate. These environments tend to be more mixed-age than the morning and afternoon, and are adaptable to a variety of ways of participation.

I led evening family music classes pre-pandemic, and many families loved bringing their kids in their pajamas, all wound up when they walked in the door, and all wound down on the way out. What a wonderful way to unwind! This environment would also be conducive to having a wider range of mixed-age skillsets met, and maybe even a ukulele student or two. We can do that, because we’re cultivating the environment in the ways that we do, for you.

home/community ukulele environments

I LOVE your in-person classes and I’m thrilled that you’re bringing them back into being.  Hopefully, folks will be moved to take them in these post-pandemic days.  I got so much out of them and still use the lessons of music’s physicality to better impress my ukulele dabblings into my brain!  I’m not someone who is natively musical, so this helped me get there.

Returning to another pre-pandemic form, I’ll be offering ukulele classes in homes or community spaces. Classes will include gentle movement to liven up our reflexes, and rhythm games to get the rhythms into our bodies. These classes will be for adults and kids of whatever ages who want to be there, given they’ll be allowed to be there without obligation to apply themselves to craft mastery. That means mom or dad can join the class, and kids can find their way to shine within the space by playing along in whatever mode of play they want: large motor play, or Lego play, or drawing or coloring or crafting play or different modes of instrument play. My families always told me that the kids that were playing Legos were also singing all the songs.

Ukulele environments are also flexible to the time space they emerge into, with morning, afternoon, or evening classes, according to the needs of the community. I will offer single skill-level classes as usual, but also would like to offer some mixed-skill classes for those that would enjoy them. It makes total sense to do this in person, while it doesn’t work well online.
